The faith once for all

Jesus is Lord.
The Bible is our guide.

We do not treat a human statement as a substitute for Scripture. This page is a simple summary of the convictions that shape our teaching, worship, and life together.

Our aim is the ancient faith of the New Testament church: centered on Jesus, dependent on grace, obedient to the gospel, and committed to Christian unity.

The Big Spring church family gathered for worship

One Lord · One faith · One baptism

01

God

We believe in one God—eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all things. God is holy, loving, just, merciful, and worthy of our whole lives.

Genesis 1:1 · Deuteronomy 6:4 · Matthew 28:19 · 2 Corinthians 13:14
02

Scripture

We believe the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and our final authority for faith and practice. We read the Bible humbly, carefully, and in community, seeking to obey what God has revealed rather than impose human traditions as divine law.

Psalm 119:105 · 2 Timothy 3:14–17 · 2 Peter 1:20–21
03

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus is the divine Son of God, fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived without sin, died for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended to the Father, reigns as Lord, and will come again.

John 1:1–18 · 1 Corinthians 15:1–8 · Philippians 2:5–11 · Colossians 1:15–20
04

Humanity & sin

We believe every person is created in the image of God and possesses immeasurable worth. All people also sin and fall short of God’s glory. We cannot rescue ourselves; we need the forgiveness, new life, and reconciliation God gives through Christ.

Genesis 1:26–27 · Romans 3:23 · Romans 6:23 · Ephesians 2:1–10
05

Salvation by grace

We believe salvation is God’s gift of grace, made possible by the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus. It is received through trusting Christ and responding to the gospel in repentance, confession of Jesus as Lord, and baptism into Christ. None of these earns grace; they are the faith-filled response by which we surrender to the One who saves.

Acts 2:36–39 · Romans 3:21–26 · Romans 6:1–7 · Romans 10:9–13 · Ephesians 2:8–10
06

Baptism

We practice the immersion of repentant believers in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In baptism we identify with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, receive the gospel promise of forgiveness and the Holy Spirit, and begin a new life as part of Christ’s body.

Matthew 28:18–20 · Acts 2:38 · Acts 22:16 · Romans 6:3–4 · Galatians 3:26–28
07

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is God’s personal presence with and within believers. The Spirit convicts, regenerates, indwells, transforms, gifts, and empowers Christians to become like Jesus and participate in God’s mission.

John 14:15–27 · Acts 2:38 · Romans 8:1–17 · Galatians 5:16–25 · 1 Corinthians 12:4–11
08

The church

We believe all who belong to Christ are members of his one body. Each local congregation lives under the lordship of Jesus and the leadership described in Scripture, free from denominational control yet joined in fellowship and mission with other Christians.

Matthew 16:13–18 · Acts 2:42–47 · 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 · Ephesians 4:1–16
09

Worship & the Lord’s Supper

We gather each week for biblical preaching and teaching, prayer, generous giving, congregational singing with instrumental accompaniment, and the Lord’s Supper. At the Table we remember Christ’s sacrifice, proclaim his death, celebrate his risen presence, and anticipate his return.

Acts 2:42 · Acts 20:7 · 1 Corinthians 11:23–29 · Colossians 3:16–17
10

Resurrection & the life to come

We believe Jesus will return, the dead will be raised, and God will judge the world with perfect justice. Those who are in Christ will share eternal life with God in the renewed creation; evil, sin, suffering, and death will finally be defeated.

John 5:24–29 · 1 Corinthians 15 · 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 · Revelation 21:1–5

Our Restoration Movement heritage

Christians only—not the only Christians.

Big Spring is an independent Christian Church/Church of Christ congregation rooted in the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement. We are not part of a denomination; Christ is the head of his Church, and Scripture is our guide for faith and practice.

We seek the restoration of New Testament Christianity, the unity of believers around Jesus, and liberty in matters where faithful Christians may disagree. We gladly cooperate with other Christians in the work of the gospel.

No creed but Christ.
No book but the Bible.

No name but Christian.
No law but love.
